A Tharu man and woman stand together in their respective traditional dress. The man wears a white dhoti and kurta — simple, dignified, and practical for the Terai climate. The woman's dress is layered and colorful, adorned with traditional ornaments. Together they represent the complementary visual identities of Tharu men and women, each with its own symbolism and ceremonial significance.

Tharu clothing has evolved over centuries while retaining its core identity — white for men symbolizing simplicity and purity, and colorful embroidered fabrics for women expressing creativity and cultural pride. Traditional dress is worn during Maghi, Diwali, and other major Tharu festivals, keeping the visual language of Tharu identity alive across generations.
